“Be the designer of your own destiny.” -Oscar de la Renta
In addition to our interior design projects, we also enjoy working on event designs for special clients. A favorite annual event has become the Visionary Women luncheon presented by The Mint Museum, Queens University of Charlotte and Wells Fargo Private Bank. The purpose of the luncheon is to bring together the visionary women who have shaped the City of Charlotte as well as to honor the Charlotte BuisnessWoman of the Year and Charlotte’s Woman of the Year while providing an inspiring program of forward thinking women breaking boundaries today. Click here to see other special events we have worked on in our portfolio including a a Patrons’ Party honoring Charlotte Moss and Decorative Arts Symposiums featuring Miles Redd and Mary McDonald.
Our “Dream Team” was comprised of an amazing line up of talent who are masters in their industries…Todd Murphy Events, Arzberger Engravers, Porcupine Provisions, and The Watered Garden from Raleigh. Inspired by Jay Everette of Wells Fargo, we were asked to create an event that reflected “The Romance and Glamour of Oscar de la Renta,” the current exhibition on view at The Mint Museum. Provided with some gorgeous imagery from the fashion house, we worked to transform the Queens University dining hall into a garden fantasy. As we were creating the concept, we had no idea how the exhibit would be organized. To our delight, André Leon Talley, curator of the exhibit, had used the same garden theme in his layout which can be seen here.
INSPIRATION
Event design is not for the faint of heart. There are small windows of time to set up and break down, hundreds of decisions that need to be made from devising a stunning invitation, to creating beautiful tablescapes with limited options and menus that are aesthetically pleasing and able to be prepared and served to a large crowd. Lighting and audio visual issues arise no matter how many times they have been test run. Floral designers work their magic arranging spectacular works that take one’s breath away. Each part of the team contributes in their own way to make sure the whole is greater that the sum of its parts. The goal is to make it all seem as effortless as possible. Heartfelt thanks to Todd Murphy Events for being the glue to keep everything running smoothly!
