One of favorite visits during Milan Design Week was the showroom of La Double J, founded by fashion and design editor, stylist, and journalist JJ Martin in 2015. Before we arrived, Instagram was buzzing with her newly launched tabletop collection in addition to her amazing vintage finds and sought after La Double J Editions clothing line. Known as a creative force, JJ has perfectly merged the worlds of fashion and design with her collections. The new clothing made from vintage prints debuted with 8 historic prints hand-picked from Mantero Seta, a 114 year old silk manufacturer on Lake Como who created silks for Chanel. The line has blossomed into 25 vintage patterns offered in a limited edition program that drops new models and prints every two months.
The native Angeleno created the brand as a celebration of her adopted hometown of Milan and its most creative inhabitants. Through JJ’s exuberant and playful lens, the brand has attracted a cult following of fashion insiders in search of colorful and refreshingly unique clothing. La Double J has introduced itself to a discriminating clientele through highly curated pop up shops from Milan’s Salone del Mobile to Italy’s famed Il Pellicano Hotel. I think just about every single person in our group made the pilgrimage to the La Double J showroom which was a technicolor feast for the eyes. Layer upon layer of playful patterns instantly boosted one’s mood upon entering. Described as “vibrant patterns and graphic vintage designs reach pinnacle status in its Milan showroom, a wild cocktail of prints, designed by rising Italian architect Luca Cipelletti. The unique patterned-lined space features a massive WunderWall installation, a revolving cabinet of Italian-made and vintage curiosities that hosts special events, fashion-education workshops, and private shopping frenzies for its vintage and new fashion product. Here, our growing collective of generous collaborators gather willingly and happily in a colorful, maximal paradise where talents are pooled, gifts are shared, energy sizzles and creativity is hatched.” Michele Trout and Heidi Bonesteel donning La Double JDanielle Rollins modelling Maximalism at its best

I came across this charming Q & A with founder JJ Martin on The Selby…
After trying on just about everything in the showroom, I learned that La Double J had planned a pop up shop right in our own backyard! They will be landing at Capitol in Charlotte this Tuesday, May 9th.
