AGE OF AQUARIUS: DESIGN FOR THE SIGNS

I came across a wonderful blog over the holidays that described design styles based on one’s astrological sign.  I thought it would be fun to take a stab at creating a room for an Aquarius based on the description below from StyleatHome….

AQUARIUS

Independent and unconventional, Aquarius loves cutting edge design and surrounds herself with ultra-modern style and the latest high-tech equipment. Gadgets abound, whether you’re in the living room, the kitchen or the bedroom. Aquarius needs lots of space to recharge her batteries. Her decor is often monochromatic in shades of violet or electric blue and she loves metal furniture and accessories. A creative soul, Aquarius likes to renovate and because she likes to help others, she’ll often volunteer her talents to a friend in need.

I started the scheme based off of my favorite blue and violet finds from the past High Point Market. The amethyst chandelier is from Regina Andrew. The cobalt commode, upholstered ottomans, and acrylic and shagreen bedside tables are from Century Furniture. The wavy mirror and rock crystal and nickel sconces are by Vaughan.  I would switch out the pair of ottomans for one long custom sized ottoman with the nickel nailhead trim to pick up the polished stainless steel bed frame from Horchow. The brilliant blue Sophie lamps are by Christopher Spitzmiller.  The purple pillows are from John Robshaw and the metallic vases are by Arteriors.

My favorite piece in the room is the art by James Nares that hangs behind the bed. To create these larger than life paintings, he hangs suspended above his canvas with a huge paintbrush.  There is no room for error which makes these works even more spectacular!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY AQUARIUS!
