It is hard to believe this is the closing weekend of the Southeastern Showhouse & Gardens presented by Atlanta Home and Lifestyles Magazine. Many thanks to all who have come to see the showhouse filled with so much amazing talent. I will be at the house tomorrow from 1-4 for the final day for anyone who wants to pop in to say hello!
I have had many inquiries about items available in our space. Showhouses provide an amazing source to get incredible high end pieces, custom furniture, art and antiques…many of which are priced well below what they would sell for on the showroom floor. So, if you see something that catches your eye, make sure to look at the price list in each room to see what is still available. You might find the perfect Mother’s Day gift!
We are delighted to be participating in the Southeastern Designer Showhouse & Gardens which opens this week! Not only am I glad to have a reason to spend more time in my hometown, but I am also beyond excited to spend time with so many other favorite design friends that are also designing spaces in this year’s showhouse. Atlanta is at her finest during April and May. When I first began contemplating the design scheme for our rooms, I wanted to incorporate the glorious spring shades that reveal themselves each week a new flower or tree begins to bloom. For the past several weeks, we have been feverishly working to pull together our bedroom, bathroom, and hallway that all began with this spring palette…
I wanted to create a fantasy bedroom where I would look forward to waking up each morning surrounded by everything I love. I am a colorist at heart…color energizes me, comforts me, and evokes joy for me. The palette was inspired by some of my fondest travel memories of the past year. I kept coming back to certain images I had taken where the indescribable colors stayed with me. I was continually drawn to the combination of spring green with shades of lilac and orchid.
Another whirlwind trip to AmericasMart Atlanta has passed and I am eager to share my favorite finds and trends in the design world. Looking for common threads through seven MILLION square feet of exhibition space can be somewhat daunting. We had an amazing group of #StyleYour Season designers and bloggers covering trends which will be shared in a comprehensive trend report through AmericasMart Atlanta coming soon.
Many of the motifs I incorporate into my own aesthetic kept popping up not only in the design showrooms, but also in the fashion, jewelry and tabletop showrooms as well. Here is a peak of the trends and items that caught my eye…
I adore any shade of pink….from Blush to Coral to Schiaparelli. With Rose Quartz being one of PANTONE’s Colors of the Year, the soft shade was showcased throughout every building. Starting clockwise from the top left….A gorgeous vignette by Kristin Alber featured the “Lily” Chandelier by Ro Sham Beaux, a rose Mongolian lamp pillow by SARO, a “Pretty in Pink” lamp by Regina Andrew all set against a Serenity blue backdrop (PANTONE’s other Color of the Year, “Everett” Studs in Rose Quartz by Addison Weeks, and “Paris” vases from Oly Studio.
Evocative of the paintings of Jackson Pollack and Helen Frankenthaler, abstract expressionism was also well represented throughout several showrooms. The lamps of Liz Marsh Designs were one of my most unique finds. The reverse painted glass lamps can be done in any color, background and brushstroke style from drippy to splattered. New introductions from The Blush Label are inspired by the colorful decor of Puerto Rico. At Design Legacy, the works of Kelly O’Neal mixed metallics with a modern sensibility and old world techniques. A detail of his original “Personality Traits Magenta” is seen here.
Feathers were also abundant everywhere whether they were painted, gilded, or naturally shed. An ingenious layout of prints from Mitchell Black would provide an incredible focal point for any large blank space. A white feather chandelier from Grace & Blake adds a touch of whimsy to any interior. The ostrich handbags from MooMoo would do the same for any outfit.
The variety of large statement mirrors in Atlanta was incredible. The sculptural works in gold, rock crystal, oyster shell, vellum, barnacles, and other materials were amazing. Any of these works could hold their own in an interior with other large scale works of art. From top left, the “Acquarius” mirror by Emporium Home, “Round Crystal” mirror by Modern History and “Venus” mirror in champagne oyster shell by Made Goods.
Gold accents continued to shine and were bolder than ever. From top left, artisan crafted lamps and accessories made exclusively for Couture Lamps in Vietnam, Gilt metal chandelier from Currey & Company available in a variety of sizes, and contemporary “Kopara” pillow by Pyar & Company.

Participating in the Traditional Home / Junior League of High Point Showhouse in April was one of the most gratifying experiences I have had in my career. I The creativity and camaraderie of the design community blew me away and seeing it in print brings back a flood of fond memories! We have all been anxiously awaiting the October issue to share all of our hard work for a wonderful cause…benefiting the Junior League’s community programming for High Point. Thank you to all of the gracious editors at Traditional Home, the countless volunteers from the Junior League and the amazing sponsors that brought our visions to life! I want to especially thank Bernhardt Furniture, Stanton Carpet, Made Goods, Circa Lighting, Pratt & Lambert, Addison Weeks, and Hidell Brooks Gallery that loaned and donated pieces for the space.
The final stop on the second floor is Cathy Austin’s beautiful daughter’s bedroom. Blessed with great bones—note the 10 1/2-foot ceilings and swoonworthy windows—the space is impeccably tailored from head to toe. Shaped valances mimic the Moroccan scalloping on the patterned headboard.
Circa Lighting’s brass orb chandelier and the pillows’ chopstick monogram reiterate the room’s Eastern influence. Overhead, Pratt & Lambert’s pale-pink paint in high-gloss finish complements the vintage Murano glass lamp on the bedside table. A tufted-velvet bench with Lucite legs and an antique English settee updated in sumptuous animal print round out the dazzling sanctuary.
There’s a lot to love in these beautiful showhouse bedrooms…click on the image below for a video tour of the spaces.
I envisioned my “imaginary” client as the sophisticated daughter of the family. She is well-travelled, artistic, and likes a modern, yet glamourous room that still reflects her Southern roots. A portrait by favorite artist, Kate Long Stevenson, (from Hidell Brooks Gallery) became my muse for the project. I had her in mind whenever I was making decisions for the space. The portrait and the large vintage abstract provided the color palette that inspired the design scheme. The room is a blend of unique pieces from High Point based craftsmen along with a collection from her travels around the world. A Moroccan inspired headboard, Murano glass lamps, original modern art, bespoke linens, dressmaker detailed drapery, and glamorous materials such as shagreen, agate, brass, and velvet add to the feminine mystique of the space. I indulged myself with an “imaginary” trip around the world for inspiration for the space…from the palaces of Morocco and India to the Murano glass factories and sunsets on the Nayarit Riviera.
Playing with scale and color to find the best vignette.Painting by Alexis Walter , Accessories from Made Goods, Necklaces from Janet Gregg and Candyshop Vintage
A few of my favroite things…Louise Gaskill vintage Murano Glass lamp, Addison Weeks brass turtle, Made Goods linen wrapped box , and Bernard Segal watercolor from 214 Modern Vintage

Here are a few favorites from High Point’s Fall Furniture Market. Any of these can add some much needed flair to any interior…

Gossip Chair by Oomph |
1. Oomph was one of our favorite lines at High Point. Along with the Gossip Chair above, all of their tables, mirrors, and lanterns in lacquered finishes would give any room an extra punch of personality.
Wallpapers by Jonathan Adler |
2. Anything by Jonathan Adler puts a smile on my face. His new line of wallpapers does not disappoint. You gotta love a designer that has his own Manifesto including such truisms like “We believe that when it comes to decorating, the wife is ALWAYS right, unless the husband is gay.” and “We believe in Palm Beach Style: Louis chairs, Chinoiserie, Lilly Pulitzer, The Breakers circa ’72.”
Cocktail Table by Chelsea Editions Furniture |
3.Chelsea Textiles has always been known for their embroidered fabrics and needlework pillows. Now they have introduced a Mid Century Modern Furniture line that includes side tables, desks, chairs and cocktail tables like the one pictured above. The colors range from teal to raspberry and everything in between.
Zig Zag Side Table by Festoni |
4. We discovered Festoni for the first time a couple of years ago in High Point. Since then, their booth is always a must see every time we visit. Their linen wrapped and lacquered pieces come in a range of colors from chocolate to poppy. They have cocktail, bedside and game tables along with chests and consoles.
Color Palette for Lilly Pulitzer for HFI Brands |
5. Speaking of Lilly Pulitzer, HFI Brands launched her eponymous furniture line this summer. The palette of colors is above and the pieces themselves are stunning. Even though the pieces have a retro flair about them, they would work in almost any interior with the appropriate finish and fabric.

Mirrored Console by Bungalow 5 |
6. Bungalow 5 ‘s booth gets “Best in Show” for styling. All of their pieces looked fabulous against the cerulean blue walls. Their new mirrored furniture line included Asian inspired consoles and vanities.

Diego Bed by Oly Studio |
7. Oly Studio was another beautifully styled showroom. After looking at booth after booth of merchandise crammed into small spaces, it was heavenly to walk into their ethereal showroom. The murals on their walls should be featured in one of their upcoming ads. They set a beautiful backdrop for their furniture. This bed above caught my eye. It can come in a gilt, silver or bronze finish and reminded me of a Giacometti sculpture.
Duffy Table by Made Goods |
8. Madegoods has always been a favorite resource for mirrors and accessories. This ceramic side table called “Duffy” reminded me of the Pierre Cardin furniture from the 1970s.
Turot prints from Natural Curiosities |
9. One of my favorite designers from LA introduced me to Natural Curiosities last year. I adore all of their Specimen, Graphic and Abstract Art. For this collection, they took one of their Turot Geometric pieces(which used to be a Swiss educational aid) and added color to the diagonals. These were introduced at market this Fall.

Etagere from BeeLine Home |
10. This etagere was created by one my all time favorite designers and inspired by another. Bunny Williams of added this etagere her collection at BeeLine Home this year. It was inspired by a piece that Albert Hadley has in his New York apartment. Hadley’s bookcase was built in 1936 to commemorate the Olympics being held in Berlin.
