When did you know you wanted to pursue interior design as a career?

I have been around design my entire life as the son of a home builder. My mother claims I have been rearranging furniture and scracthing up her hardwood floors since I was a young child!

What puts you in a creative mood?

Travel. I am constantly taking pictures and then review my images whenever I am in need of inspiration.

What is your creative process?

I have to think and ponder and come around to a concept that works for the client and for me and then I run with it.  I have a big love for fabrics and pull many before making selections.

What is your latest creative breakthrough?

I have been working to create many more custom pieces of furniture for clients and find that its very rewarding!

What has been the most pivotal moment in your career?

I believe the day I received the prototype of the labels for my linen line it definitely put a smile on my face.

Tell us about your current work.

Currently I am working on a few different projects one being a pied a terre in NYC and a large family home in Nashville.  Both fun but yet very different.

Can you give us a glimpse of what to expect from Jonathan Savage in the future?

Since introducing my linen line September of 13 I have yet to expand the collection but will be adding new styles and colors within three months…after that who knows!

What do you want to be remembered for?

I would say I want to be remembered for being kind first of all but being a hard worker is very important to me.

Do you have any advice for budding designers?

Network, network, network and travel as often as possible.

What do you collect?

I am anti-clutter so anything I collect needs to be functional. I collect Richard Ginori’s “Palmetto” china and Orbix Hot Glass pitchers which are perfect for entertaining (available through Taigan).

 What is your favorite color?

I have always had a thing for orange.  I think it can work with many styles of interiors and looks fresh in all seasons.

What is your favorite design trick?

I think of window treatments as bangs…you do not want them to cover the eyes and block the view. I always make sure to never have the window treatments cover up any of the glass blocking the view.  I also love wallpapering ceilings.

If you had a theme song, what would it be?

I cannot pick just one song, but I love anything by Dolly Parton and Lady Gaga!
